Just one day after resignation agreement with outgoing principal
Greene County Schools superintendent Brett Abbotts announced Wednesday that Karen Shannon has been offered the high school principal position for the 2023-2024 school year, pending board approval.
Shannon is completing her first year as the district math coach. Previously, she served as the middle school counselor and as an elementary classroom teacher in both Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene.
She holds a bachelor of science from Iowa State University, a master in professional school counseling from Buena Vista University, and is completing master of education in educational leadership from Fort Hays State University.
Shannon’s message to the high school staff Tuesday morning was, “We are going to be on the path together to do what’s best for kids.”
According to Abbotts, Shannon carries a strong passion for Greene County schools, students, staff, and community. She possesses a strong ability to connect with families, students, and staff members and will look to implement a culture of learning and growth together.
The board of education will make the decision to approve Shannon’s hiring in the coming weeks.
“Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Karen Shannon to her new role as the Greene County High School principal,” Abbotts said.
